Fri Dec 30 17:54:33 2011 [Matthew Micka 1974]: To follow up on Paul McCullough's comment on the Class of '76 Facebook page. He's not kidding. A host of wonderful photographs. And proof, if any is necessary, that Campion was a wonderful place to be right up to the very end. As demonstrated by the class that had the school close down on them one year shy of their graduation. A wonderful thing to be put on to, at year's end...
Thu Dec 29 07:47:04 2011 [Jeff Paunicka 1972]: I wish you all a prosperous new year.
Mon Dec 26 00:36:08 2011 [jim behrendt 72]: and to all a good knight.
Sun Dec 25 08:46:04 2011 [Tom Lochner 1972]: Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all, even Joe "the Grinch" Williamson and Dan "The Sausage King" Lipke. Thanks to Tom Olson for making the site possible to keep us connected. Go Pack!!!
Sun Dec 25 00:41:36 2011 [Robert Bruchs 1973]: Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all. And thank you Tom for many years of memories, and many more to come.

A special note of thanks to Tom Olson and all contributors for continuing to keep this site updated and ongoing. May God grant blessings and eternal peace to all Knights who departed this past year to their reward and final reunion.

Fri Dec 23 13:47:08 2011 [Dudek '70]: Ron Shipley was a great math teacher - I learned a lot from him. Sorry for his loss. Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all Knights.
Thu Dec 22 22:06:35 2011 [Keough '65]: Mr. Olson, you are doing a fkn kick-ass job keeping this site alive & well. Thanks so much for your efforts. I'm thinking that some people don't think that this is more than just a minor effort on your part.
Thu Dec 22 22:04:00 2011 [Keough '65]: We seem to be losing momentum in this site lately. Contact your buddies and get them all involved again, got ham it!! This is a great resource for all-class Campion conversations. Our population is, unfortunately, shrinking so we need to stay involved. (Of course, I plan to live forever...just like I thought would when I was 17.)
Thu Dec 22 14:46:26 2011 [Thomas Olson 1972]: Hey guys, Do any of you have youtubes or pictures of you playing a musical instrument since leaving Campion. Let me know real soon. The next issue of the CampionForever online newsletter is featuring Campion Musicians. Heck, I'll even take MLPS musicians. Time is running out. The issue is due to be released New Years Eve.
Wed Dec 21 13:38:57 2011 [Fred Nora 1970]: Ditto the last message...Merry Christmas to all Knights and Tom, your efforts are appreciated.
Thu Dec 8 09:21:44 2011 [Mike Horrigan 1954]: Merry Christmas to all Campion Knights and their Families and Loved ones. And as always each year a very special thank you to Tom Olson for all his time and efforts to keep this site open and available to all of us.
Thu Dec 1 18:30:27 2011 [Thomas Olson 1972]: Ron was also a good Intramural Football coach.
Thu Dec 1 13:40:11 2011 [Joe Haschka 1970]: I meant to write that she died in August rather than May. Not sure what I was looking at. Nonetheless, Ron taught C Class Frosh Algebra.
Thu Dec 1 13:33:22 2011 [Joe Haschka 1970]: Old news to some I suppose, but I was just browsing the Prairie Courier site and saw that Ron Shipley's wife died last May: Mary Lou Shipley June 20, 1934 - August 7, 2011 Mary Lou Shipley, 77, of Prairie du Chien, passed away Sunday, August 7, at Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in La Crosse. Mary Lou Kirchgasler was born June 20, 1934 in Aberdeen, S. D., to John and Lena (Biegler) Kirchgasler. She married Ronald Shipley on December 28, 1957 at St. Mary’s Church in Aberdeen. She was an avid reader, but cross-stitching was her passion, creating many cherished treasures for family and friends. She also enjoyed travelling. For the past 40 years, she spent her summers camping in Canada at Paradise Point. She made many trips to New Orleans and California via Amtrak. She took several cruises, the most memorable being through the Panama Canal. She was a loving wife, mother, sister, grandmother and great grandmother and will be sadly missed by all. She lived well, laughed often and loved deeply. She is survived by her husband of 53 years, Ronald Shipley of Prairie du Chien; her son, Benton (Deana) Shipley of Houma, La.; her daughters, Roxie of Prairie du Chien and Camille (Larry) Kapinus of Prairie du Chien; her grandchildren Tracy (Jacob) LeBert, Brian and Brittany Shipley and Erica and Trent Kapinus; one great granddaughter Tatum; her brother Harold (Alice) Kirchgasler of Watertown, S.D.; her brother-in-law Bill (Vicki) Shipley of Minneapolis, Minn. She was preceded in death by her parents, and brothers, George and John Kirchgasler. A Mass of Christian Burial will be Thursday, August 11, at 11 a.m. at St. Gabriel’s Catholic Church, Rev. James Weighner officiating, with burial in the Calvary Cemetery both in Prairie du Chien. Friends may call on Wednesday, August 10, 2011 from 4 to 8 p.m. at the Garrity Funeral Home in Prairie du Chien, where there will be a wake scripture at 7:30 p.m. Memorials are preferred to the Prairie Catholic Schools.
Mon Nov 28 17:58:44 2011 [Paul McCullough 1970]: A must see: Face Book site for CJHS Class of 1976. Close to 60 - 65 pictures (almost all in color!) of the campus, students and activities during the mid 1970's. Can connect via link on "Other Campion websites". Spectacular.
Sat Nov 26 09:35:21 2011 [Keough 65]: Have only just heard of Rick Uchwat's passing. Lung cancer took him in May of this year. He founded and ran the Zanies Comedy Clubs. Interesting article about him...just google RICK UCHWAT and read the clip from the Chicago Tribune. I haven't been back to this site in too long. Hope all's well for you Knights. All's well here in Arkansas except that LSU kicked our asses yesterday.
Fri Nov 18 15:42:51 2011 [Dexter Willis 1976]: I'm guy weztels old roomate and I have'nt been on campus although I passed by in 0'4. never forget the experience need to talk to old classmates
Tue Nov 15 11:17:07 2011 [Thomas Olson 1972]: Thanks Nick, I updated the Golf Tour page.
Tue Nov 15 09:04:18 2011 [nick primiano 1972]: golf outing is on june 11 2012.
Sat Oct 22 13:16:29 2011 [Jon Lobdell 1962]: Could the following 1962 graduates please contact our reunion committee at: campion62reunion@gmail.com. Bill Carpenter, Tom Daly, Pat Egan, Mike Vallee and Pete Wiedemann. If anybody has information regarding the whereabouts of any of these individuals, please contact us at the same e-mail address. Thanks.
Tue Oct 4 11:54:14 2011 [Fred Nora 70]: Mike Redmond, I believe class of '61, recently passed away. He was an opthamologist who practiced in Pensacola. He was known in the medical community as one who would readily see neonates, an oftentimes thankless job. He died from pancreatic cancer. RIP
Thu Aug 25 14:06:47 2011 [Michael Doyle 1970]: the last one is from me.
Thu Aug 25 14:05:54 2011 [ ]: Ditto the congratulations and thanks to Clete. In honor, I will not wear my "Beat Army" hat for at least a week.
Fri Aug 5 15:52:11 2011 [Bob Voosen 1966]: The guys are getting the finishing touches on our 45th reunion at the Palmer house in Chicago. Looks like 60+ classmates will be in attendance. August 12-14.
Tue Aug 2 08:04:54 2011 [Robert Bruchs 1973]: 3M Makes Major Commitment to Hoffman Hall - At a time when I should have been working but was instead surfing the web, I came across this article regarding Hoffman Hall. Apparently there is a $2 million campaign to renovate Hoffman Hall. The article describes 3M's commitment as a $150,000 donation and also mentions a $300,000 3-year, $100,000 per year commitment by Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital. The article can be found at www.pdctoday.com/2011/07/3m-major-commitment-hoffman-hall. It is nice to think that the crumbling facade of Hoffman Hall will soon receive some attention. I just wish we still had an alma mater that it was part of. By the way, I still have videos from I think '83 that show the swimming record board on the north wall of the pool area. Stupay, Lyden, Washburn and others are listed.
Wed Jul 27 15:32:14 2011 [Joe Riley 1969]: Joe, I'll say hello for you. George; I am one of the guys from Arizona, what did you want to hear about.
Mon Jul 25 06:12:39 2011 [Joe Williamson 1972]: Hey Joe Riley - how is your brother Rory doing? Say hello to him and ask if he remembers me. We were buddies our freshman year and then he never came back.
Thu Jul 14 08:32:28 2011 [Jim Moriarty 1969]: Just found this. It's what happens when you spend too much time Internet surfing. Just celebrated my 60th, doin' fine. Retired now. Living with my GF. Still in the Chicago area but needing warmer climes. Can't golf here in winter. Hope all are well!
Mon Jul 4 09:01:35 2011 [Joe riley 1969]: George, can you hear me. I don't know what to say except it's hot as hell and it hasn't snowed in 5 years or so.
Fri Jul 1 05:34:34 2011 [George E. Burbach 1957]: I'd like to hear from guys in Arizona
Thu May 26 06:20:01 2011 [Tom Lochner 1972]: Clete, Amen and Congratulations and thank you!
Mon May 23 21:37:23 2011 [C.C. Althoff 1970]: Hey Brothers, I just submitted my Army reirement paperwork with my "end term" date being 20120601. It's time to go, and I guess I'll see what will happen. Ya know....it's like gettng your initial acceptance to Campion and you don't know what you are going to have to live with until the sun rises and you wake up in Marquet Hall on your very first morning; alone and in a world that will offer you only what you are willing to give it. I will now turn 60 on May 30th 2011, and....yeah....I did always wonder why my dad (former B-17 pilot, WWII) and everyone else, had to march to the graves on my birthday and make speaches. Memoral Day has never been "my day", it belongs to us all, to include my great-great grandfather who served under GEN Sherman with the 15th Iowa RGT. Please, my Campion Brothers, appreciate the fact that the peace within your lives has a price, and always remember that a Soldiers sacrifice is for peace and justice, for you, and for eachother..... PEACE....OUT!
Thu May 12 13:09:02 2011 [Joe Haschka 1970]: Tom Olson, Is it you who helped put together the Naked Barbies' website? Their co-founder, Mike Conner, is a good friend of mine.
Wed May 4 22:33:07 2011 [Mike Horrigan 1954]: I just learned that Dr. Owen McCarthy class of 54 passed away on Jan. 19th, 2010 in Bradenton Florida. My God rest your soul my old friend.
Mon Apr 11 12:16:10 2011 [John Duskey 1963]: I just called Mark Peterson's Law office and was told that the golf outing will be on Monday, June 13. They will be sending out letters sometime soon. Those who are planning mini-reunion get-togethers in conjunction with the golf outing would probably be thinking about spending at least part of the weekend of June 11-12 in Prairie du Chien.
Sun Apr 3 17:18:55 2011 [Thomas J Rothschild 1967]: I would have been a 1967 graduate of Campion Jesuit High School, if I had continued. However, I left in June 1965, because my family moved from Wisconsin to Oregon. I graduated from Jesuit High School in Beverton, Oregon in 1967, and I graduated from the University of Portland in 1971 with a Degree in Chemistry. I would be interested to hear from my classmates in the years 1963 - 1965.
Wed Mar 30 14:16:39 2011 [Mike Horrigan 1954]: Whoops, Forgot my name, that's worth one jug I guess !
Wed Mar 30 14:11:46 2011 [ ]: Tom Olson, I was browsing thru In Privatum Campianum last week and found where you had added the film "Begone Satan" that Matt Micka had made back in 1972. I really enjoyed seeing all the things in the background that I had long ago forgotten about(such as the old desks that we used, the study hall steps up to the door where the prefect sat, and the old Campion hall locker room, etc.) Thanks for putting it into a format that us old farts from the 50's who are for the most part computer novices can now access.
Mon Mar 28 23:05:06 2011 [John Duskey 1963]: I visited the St. Camillus-Jesuit retirement center on Monday, March 28, including lunch with Fr. Jim Fitzgerald, and I saw several other Jesuits while I was there. We examined the necrology for Wisc-Det-Chgo-Missouri provinces, and the current assignments of several Jesuits who are still alive. The information is now posted in the faculty roster, including date of death for 50 ex-Campion Jesuits. There are still some unknowns, and we have little information about lay faculty and Jesuits who left the order.
Mon Feb 28 20:13:41 2011 [John Duskey 1963]: I just finished a phone conversation with Don DuBrul from the class of 1962. He told me that Tom Abbott, who was their class president, had died on February 16, 2009. They will really miss him during the reunion next year. They miss him right now, while they planning the reunion.
Wed Feb 23 19:19:11 2011 [John Christopher Chinn 1962]: To Don D.: Happy to hear our class of '62 may have a 50 year reunion. Now that I'm retired (and - suddenly - a widower), I'll be happy to help in whatever way I can. My email is: chinn_john@hotmail.com
Wed Feb 23 11:51:32 2011 [Jim Knight 1954]: Looking for pictures of Salvador Habet-Anyone?
Mon Feb 21 12:57:20 2011 [Derick Kelly 2005 (PDC HS)]: I just figured I would write an update post on my search for the result/score of a football game from 1942 between Prairie High and Campion that took place on 11/26/1942 at Campion. I keep coming up empty in my searches of local and state newspapers. I know Campion didn't produce a yearbook during those years but I'm pretty sure Prairie High did but no place in PdC I've checked has that yearbook. If anyone comes across any information that could be useful, that would be great. Before he passed away last October, I had the chance to have my folks ask Jack Howe (a family friend and former PHS star athlete) if he remembered that game as the Courier did mention in a paper after the game that he had come back from college that weekend and had attended that game but unfortunately he did not (not too unexpected as the game did happen more than 68 years ago). I'm not giving up though on finding this result though so if anyone comes across anything (or really any PdC - Campion sports scores) feel free to e-mail me if you would like. Thank you, Derick Kelly.
Sun Feb 20 04:28:52 2011 [Don DuBrul 1962]: The first stages of planning for the 50th class reunion for the 1962 class has begun. Jon Lobdell and myself have been compiling an updated list of classmates. We would appreciate any help that we can get.
Thu Feb 3 23:38:02 2011 [Thomas Olson 1972]: You can find the link to Fr. Doran obit on the Campion Forever Newsletter.
Mon Jan 31 20:56:50 2011 [Tere Flynn ]: Marquette University High School Monday - January 31, 2011 Dear Alumni and Friends, I want to let you know the sad news that Fr. Bill Doran, S.J., who served as president of Marquette University High School from 1969-1985, passed away Jan. 31, 2011 at the Jesuit Community at St. Camillus in Wauwatosa, Wis. Father Doran was 87. He was Marquette High’s longest serving president. Visitation will begin at 6 p.m. Thursday, Feb. 3, in the round chapel on the second floor at St. Camillus, 10100 W. Blue Mound Road, Wauwatosa, followed by the Funeral Mass at 7 p.m. Fr. Doran will be buried at Calvary Cemetery in Milwaukee on Friday at 9 a.m. Father Doran was a beloved and popular president during his tenure at Marquette High. He was known for having a phenomenal memory for names of people he had met, as well as knowledge about every student who attended the school. He was a great Irish tenor and is remembered for his rendition of “Oh Danny Boy” at the Parent Follies talent show. Father Doran is a personal role model for me. He always treated everyone with the same respect and care regardless of their background, who they were, or what they had. He went out of his way to care for those with special needs. He lived very simply. He was truly a good, humble, holy man. Father Doran reached out to many during his time at Marquette High. He started a support group for single parents at the school in the 1970s because they had more challenges integrating into the MUHS community. At the beginning of each school year when the Jesuits made their annual visits to the homes of new students, Father Doran would insist on visiting the families of students of color. He also was a major supporter of the Hilltopper athletic programs. Soccer, skiing and hockey were added as varsity sports during his tenure. For his support, he was inducted into Marquette High’s Athletic Hall of Fame in 2000. Father Doran was born in Omaha, Neb., on Sept. 23, 1923 and was baptized at St. Cecilia’s Cathedral. He attended Franklin Grade School and St. John’s Grade School and then Creighton Prep Jesuit High School, where he graduated in 1941. After one and a half years of college at Creighton University in Omaha, he entered the Jesuit novitiate at St. Stanislaus Seminary in Florissant, Mo. on February 1943 and on Feb. 11, 1945 he pronounced his first vows. He was ordained priest by Archbishop Albert G. Meyer at the Gesu Church in Milwaukee on June 16, 1955. In 1956-1957 Father Doran was assistant principal at Campion Jesuit High School in Prairie du Chien, Wis., and the next year he did his tertianship at St. Joseph Hall in Decatur, Ill., under the direction of the Rev. Hugo J. Gerleman, S.J. He returned to Campion as principal. In 1968 he was named principal, then president in 1969 of Marquette University High School. In 1985 he left that position to become vice president until 1989, when he spent a sabbatical year at Weston Jesuit School of Theology in Cambridge, MA. Father Doran returned to Marquette University High School as assistant to the president. In 1991 he moved to Creighton Prep to occupy the parallel position of assistant to the president. The following year he served as associate pastor at Gesu Church in Milwaukee, but in 1994 he returned to Creighton Prep to resume his duties as assistant to the President and chaplain to the alumni. As his health continued to fail and he needed more care than the Creighton Prep community could provide, he was missioned to pray for the Church and the Society of Jesus in the Jesuit Community at St. Camillus in Wauwatosa, Wis., where he died. May he rest in peace. Yours in The Risen Lord, Fr. Warren Sazama, S.J., ‘64 President
Mon Jan 31 11:07:41 2011 [Edward Witt SJ 1966]: Fr. Bill Doran SJ RIP (1-31-11) A wonderful Jesuit and a kind man.
Sat Jan 29 19:00:46 2011 [Edward Witt SJ 1966]: Not too late to wish every one a Happy New Year. I'm looking forward to our 45th. Go Steelers--beat Green Bay!
Thu Jan 27 09:25:47 2011 [Bob Voosen 1966]: Updated campion66 dot org website now available. Added Lundy's pictures from the 40th reunion. (OK-it took 4+ years but who's counting?)(Stuck in snowstorm in Boston leaves time for this sort of thing.) Planning for 45th in progress and will post on that site as they firm up.
Sat Jan 22 19:06:30 2011 [J. C. Chinn 1962]: My wife of 33 years collapsed and died of a masive heart attack at work on Friday, January 7. I had driven her to work that morning - said, "I'll see you at 3:30 or earlier if they let you guys off". She was pronounced dead at 11:15. Never any heart problems. We were planning a trip to Prairie next summer after she retired. Makes us all wonder, doesn't it? When it's our time, it's time to go home.
Thu Jan 20 10:38:33 2011 [Mike Horrigan 1954]: E-Bay 6402, congratulations this morning (darn it) best wishes though and hope you enjoy the memories. P.S. I'll get you next time.
Tue Jan 18 09:55:23 2011 [Bob Voosen 1066]: Must be a bad winter. The house bound midwest boys have started beating the drums on getting the Class of '66 reunion planning started. Stay tuned.
